PH CONSULATE BRINGS BAHAY KUBO-BELEN TO 22ND PAROL LANTERN FESTIVAL IN SF

Filipino Christmas was in the air at the 22nd annual Parol Lantern Festival, organized by the SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District and the Filipino American Development Foundation (FADF) at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on 14 December 2024.

During the parol stroll, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco showcased a belen (nativity scene) inside a miniature-size bahay kubo (stilt house) that is adorned with Capiz shell ornaments as well as decors from the Philippine Department of Tourism Office in San Francisco. The belen was recently featured during the 37th Annual Christmas Crèche Exhibit at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Palo Alto, California.

First mounted in 2003 as the first Filipino Christmas lantern festival in the U.S., the Parol Lantern Festival has become a yearly tradition in San Francisco to enjoy Filipino Christmas through parol-making, music, and food. (San Francisco PCG photos)
