Lumin-awa Ensemble, Kalinga Culture Bearers from the Cordilleras, Perform at PH Consulate

LUMIN-AWA ENSEMBLE, KALINGA CULTURE BEARERS FROM THE CORDILLERAS, PERFORMS AT PH CONSULATE

Consul General Neil Ferrer welcomed the Lumin-awa Performance Ensemble, culture bearers from Mabilong, Lubuagan in Kalinga, Philippines on 27 November 2024. Led by Cirilo Bawer, the first choreographer to introduce the Cordillera suite to the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company, the Ensemble performed indigenous music and dance during the dual citizenship oath-taking ceremony at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, bedecked in their colorful attire and using their traditional instruments.

Consul General Ferrer expressed his gratitude to the Manilatown Heritage Foundation, led by its Executive Director Caroline Cabading, for helping bring the Ensemble to the United States. He also conveyed his hope for the Ensemble to continue promoting the Kalinga culture and heritage to the younger generation.

The Ensemble is slated to perform at the 22nd annual Parol Lantern Festival at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, SOMA Pilipinas District in San Francisco on 14 December 2024. (San Francisco PCG photos)
