PH CONSULATE FETES FEC GALING BATA FILIPINO LANGUAGE PROGRAM DURING FIL-AM HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, joined the Filipino American History Month celebration of the FEC Galing Bata Bilingual Program at the Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District in San Francisco on 17 October 2024.

In his remarks, Vice Consul Baccay said that the celebration with the mostly Filipino and Filipino American school children and teens is befitting, since the youth is “the future of Filipino American history.” He lauded and thanked FEC Galing Bata for its Filipino language program, and turned over to FEC Galing Bata Director Charm Consolacion two Filipino books from the Consulate’s Sentro Rizal Library.

Since 2001, FEC Galing Bata has been promoting biliteracy development in English and Filipino, and multicultural education from kindergarten to the eighth grade at the Bessie Carmichael School. It is part of the “World Language in Elementary School” Program of the San Francisco Unified School District, which allows the Filipino language to be taught at the city’s public elementary schools.
