KODIAK, ALASKA – Philippine Consul General to San Francisco Neil Frank Ferrer paid a courtesy call on Representative Louise Stutes, member of the Alaska State Legislature, representing House District 5 on Kodiak Island, at her office in Kodiak on 24 September 2024, at the sidelines of the consular outreach program of the Philippine Consulate General in the city.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the Filipinos and Filipino Americans working and residing in the city and their significant contributions in the growth and development of Kodiak. They noted that from cannery workers, the Filipino Americans in Kodiak are also now working in hospitals, schools, hotels, and other industries. The officials also took the opportunity to discuss ways on how to further assist the Filipino American community in Kodiak.
Alaska Rep. Stutes also shared some developments on the fishing industry in Alaska of which Kodiak is a key player.
There are 3,142 Filipinos and Filipino Americans living in Kodiak, according to the American Community Survey, which represents 24-25% of residents in the Kodiak Island Borough. END
