CONSUL GENERAL FERRER AND MADAME FERRER GRACE WORLD PREMIERE OF PARANGAL DANCE COMPANY’S “IPAT A KADSAKAY: LIVING TRADITIONS OF MAGUINDANAO”

Consul General Neil Ferrer and Madame Miriam Ferrer watched the world premiere of Parangal Dance Company’s newest production “Ipat a Kadsakay: Living Traditions of Maguindanao” at the Blue Shield of California Theater in San Francisco on 5 October 2024.

In his remarks, Consul General Ferrer told the audience that October is celebrated in the Philippines as National Indigenous Peoples Month. He expressed hope that after the show, the Filipino American Community will appreciate and recognize how Philippine indigenous peoples are “intrinsically part of who we are as Filipinos.”

The production featured an evolution of the Maguindanaon ritual practice ipat, performed as a contemporary interpretation of ancestral traditions. It gave a glance of daily life in Maguindanao before and after Islam was introduced in the Philippines in the 16th century. (San Francisco PCG photos)
