DALY CITY, CALIFORNIA, USA – Amid the rare October heat wave across the Bay Area, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco attended the milestone 10th annual Kasayahan sa Daly City, held at Marchbank Park in Daly City, California on 5 October 2024. Kasayahan sa Daly City serves as the official celebration of Filipino American History Month in the city.
In his remarks, Consul General Neil Ferrer recognized the organizers, sponsors, vendors, artists, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make the last 10 years of the Kasayahan sa Daly City possible. “All of you here today are ‘citizen ambassadors’ of Filipino culture and pride,” Consul General Ferrer said.
“I encourage the community to continue supporting events in the Bay Area and elsewhere that celebrate Filipino cultural heritage,” Consul General Ferrer added.
The Philippine Consul General thanked the Daly City Government, led by Fil-Am Mayor Juslyn Manalo, for its continued recognition of the significant contributions of the Filipino Community in Daly City. He also thanked the Daly City leadership for its efforts in forging closer ties with the Philippines through the longstanding sister city agreement between Quezon City and Daly City.
“I fervently hope that the ‘city diplomacy’ initiatives between Daly City and Quezon City accelerate the people-to-people exchanges between our two nations especially in technology and innovation, fields that the Bay Area and Silicon Valley are best known for,” Consul General Ferrer further said.
Consul General Ferrer then received from Mayor Manalo a proclamation signed by all members of the Daly City Council, declaring October as Filipino American History Month in the city.
As in previous years, the Kasayahan sa Daly City featured Filipino and Fil-Am dance and musical performances, Filipino food & craft vendors and other small businesses, Filipino businesses and non-profits, and Daly City government agencies.
According to the latest U.S. census, close to 34,000 Filipinos and Filipino Americans live in Daly City which, against its total population of 100,000, comprise the highest concentration of Filipinos in the Bay Area—which earned the city the moniker “the Pinoy Capital of the Bay Area.” END
