SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, USA – The Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer met with Seattle Deputy Mayor Greg Wong at Seattle City Hall, Washington on 27 August 2024.

The two officials discussed strengthening existing engagements and exploring new areas for collaboration to enhance economic and people-to-people exchanges between the City of Seattle and the Philippines.

They discussed the possible re-opening of a Philippine Consulate General in Seattle, the launching of the Philippine Airlines direct flight between Manila and Seattle in October 2024, and the revival of the Sister-City Relations between Seattle and Cebu City.  Other possible areas for cooperation tackled include startup development, technological cooperation, particularly on clean energy, and academic partnerships.

Consul General Ferrer also expressed appreciation for the City’s leadership of the diverse community in Seattle and for providing inclusive opportunities for social and economic development for all its constituents. There are an estimated 24,000 Filipino Americans living in Seattle, Washington.

Deputy Mayor Greg Wong was appointed by Mayor Bruce Harrell as Seattle’s Deputy Mayor of External Relations on 01 August 2022. As Deputy Mayor for External Affairs, he is responsible for fostering collaborative relationships with community groups, non-profit organizations, and local businesses and directing the mayor’s external team.
