“YOUNG VOICES OF THE PHILIPPINES” DEBUTS AT THE 12TH GOLDEN GATE INT’L CHORAL FESTIVAL IN SAN FRANCISCO
SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Filipino children’s choir Young Voices of the Philippines (YVP), under the baton of Conductor Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and Artistic Director Jude Roldan, made their debut at the 12th Golden Gate International Choral Festival.
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, attended the festival’s spotlight concert featuring the YVP at the Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco on 11 July 2023.
The YVP is joining 13 other choral groups from the United States, Australia, Canada, Estonia, Georgia and Lithuania for the 12th edition of the triennial festival.
The YVP elated the full-house audience with their angelic and animated renditions of Filipino songs “Koudjay,” “Da Kami Ay Anan-ak,” “Lemlunay” and “Inday sa Balitaw,” American folk song “Shenandoah,” and faith songs “O Lord, Hear My Prayer” and “Pater Noster.” For their breathtaking performance, the choral group received two standing ovations from the audience.
Throughout the week, the YVP will take part in the festival’s historical and folk, gospel/spiritual, and contemporary competitions, to be held at the First Congregational Church in Berkeley, California. The choral group will also perform at the festival’s closing ceremony at the Kofman Auditorium in Alameda, California.
Founded in 2020, the YVP is a church and community choir under the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines, comprising young Filipino choristers from various social backgrounds. As part of their first-ever U.S. tour, the YVP recently performed at the University of Maryland and the Carnegie Hall in New York City, and will stage concerts in San Bruno, California and Portland, Oregon.
