SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Dubnation and basketball fans in the San Francisco Bay Area were treated with a night of Filipino culture and food in the 16th Filipino Heritage Night of the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center in San Francisco on 24 February 2023.

Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer and Mrs. Miriam Ferrer attended the Filipino Heritage Night, which pitted the reigning champions of the National Basketball Association (NBA) against the visiting Houston Rockets.

“I commend the Warriors organization and the Filipino American Community in the Bay Area for spearheading the Filipino Heritage Night. This was an event where Filipinos and Filipinos at heart came together not only to cheer for the home team, but also to show why we are the most passionate basketball fans in the world,” Consul General Ferrer said.

Consul General Ferrer also cited the Philippines’ imminent hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will bring to the country the world’s best basketball players including those from the NBA.

The Filipino Heritage Night featured a pre-show from the Filipino Students of Arts and Culture at Sacramento State University, a rendition of the American National Anthem by the San Jose-based choir group Bytes and Notes, and the halftime performance of Dancel’s Academy of Tae Kwon Do featuring a Filipino martial arts demonstration.

Basketball aficionados also got their taste of Philippine-inspired food from food trucker Señor Sisig, which recently opened its standalone shop at the San Francisco Ferry Building, and received complimentary Filipino Heritage Night t-shirts. The Sarap Shop has been serving Filipino fusion food to basketball fans since the beginning of the 2022-2023 NBA season, at its permanent stall at Chase Center.

Confirmed Filipino Heritage Nights in the Bay Area for 2023 include the San Francisco Giants-Cincinnati Reds game on 28 August 2023, and the Oakland Athletics-Seattle Mariners game on 19 September 2023. END
