SAN FRANCISCO, USA – The United States-wide roadshow of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) kicked off in San Francisco on 17 February 2022, with Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer gracing the event at Dynamico Space at the Philippine Center.
In his remarks, Consul General Ferrer welcomed 2022 FYLPRO President Leezel Tanglao to San Francisco, and expressed his best wishes to FYLPRO’s new leadership as the organization enters its tenth year.
“The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco remains supportive of FYLPRO’s mission in engaging the Filipino American youth to contribute to nation-building efforts in the Philippines and community welfare for Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the U.S.,” Consul General Ferrer said.
During the roadshow, Consul General Ferrer gave a brief backgrounder on the work of the Consulate, which caters to around 1.1 to 1.3 million Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. In addition to the efficient and effective delivery of passport and other consular services, the Consulate has also turned its focus on economic diplomacy that will bring businesses and jobs to the Philippines.
Consul General Ferrer cited the Consulate’s partnership with Dynamico Space, an office and co-working space at the Philippine Center co-owned by former FYLPRO President JR Calanoc, to support American and Filipino American startup companies that are planning to enter the Philippine and the Southeast Asian markets, as well as Philippine startups through mentorship sessions and networking opportunities in the U.S.
The Philippine Consul General also sought FYLPRO’s support to encourage registered Filipino voters—particularly the youth—to participate in the 2022 Presidential Elections, which will run outside the Philippines from 10 April to 9 May 2022.
The first FYLPRO roadshow was keynoted by Philippine International Aid founder and Positively Filipino Website publisher Mona Lisa Yuchengco, who encouraged those in attendance to pursue their passions that can uplift other people’s lives.
The nationwide roadshow, which aims to assemble the alumni of FYLPRO’s annual immersion program to the Philippines as well as to engage up-and-coming young Filipino Americans, was launched in San Francisco by FYLPRO President Tanglao as one of the organization’s new projects for 2022. The roadshow will head to Guam, Honolulu, and Los Angeles before the first quarter of the year ends. END
