9a (Temporary Visitor) Visa Application
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco would like to announce that effective 01 August 2021, U.S. passport holders under the following categories may apply for a 9a (temporary visitor) visa to enter the Philippines:
- Foreign spouses of Filipino nationals;
- Foreign minor children and foreign children with special needs (regardless of age), of Filipino nationals;
- Foreign parents of minor Filipino children and foreign parents of Filipino children with special needs (regardless of age).
The public is further advised of the following:
- All visa applications are processed by mail. These are subject to evaluation and approval is not guaranteed. Please see www.pcgsanfrancisco.org/visa for the list of requirements to apply for a 9a visa.
- 9a visas shall be limited to single-entry, valid for ninety (90) days.
- Foreign passport holders who are also Philippine citizens (dual citizens) need not apply for a visa. They may enter the Philippines using their foreign passport and Dual Citizenship Identification Certificate.
- U.S. passport holders who are covered by the Balikbayan program, specifically, former Filipino citizens and their spouses and their children who are traveling with them; and foreign spouses and children of Filipino citizens traveling with them are allowed to enter visa-free. U.S. passport holders who are spouses and children of former Filipino nationals not traveling with the latter must be issued an Entry Exemption Document (EED) by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) prior to applying for a visa.
- Foreign passport holders who do not qualify under the three categories stated above, but have an urgent need to travel to the Philippines, must be issued an EED by the DFA prior to applying for a visa.
